Just Another NYC Weekend

We had a fun and eventful weekend. I took Friday off and we went to Coney Island. This is the final season before it gets turned in to a "retail/amusement/residential project." As you'll see in the photos, a lot has closed already, but we did get to ride the world famous Cyclone, see a freak show, eat a Nathan's hotdog, and walk along the beach on probably the most perfect day of the year. On Sunday we went to see David Byrne's "Playing the Building." It's described as "a sound installation in which the infrastructure, the physical plant of the building, is converted into a giant musical instrument. Devices are attached to the building structure — to the metal beams and pillars, the heating pipes, the water pipes — and are used to make these things produce sound. The activations are of three types: wind, vibration, striking. The devices do not produce sound themselves, but they cause the building elements to vibrate, resonate and oscillate so that the building itself becomes a very large musical instrument." It's set to close next weekend.

We also walked and explored the city on foot and managed to see 2 of the 4 "waterfalls." It's a public art exhibit by artist Olafur Eliasson.

Is this a great city or what??

AWESOME!! Looks like fun. We need to get down there to see some sights but I don't think Thea is ready for a Freak Show. She'll get the idea that it is okay to shove nails up the dogs noses or something like that.
